Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a therapist. It provides a supportive environment to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral, and non-judgmental. Psychotherapy helps you understand your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors so you can develop healthier coping strategies and make positive changes in your life.

How long does therapy take to work?

The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people notice improvements within 4-6 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. During your free consultation, we'll discuss your specific situation and provide a personalized recommendation for treatment duration.

What should I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session is a chance for us to understand your concerns, goals, and background. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, review your history, and begin developing a treatment plan together. It's a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space. Many clients feel a sense of relief after their first session.

Is therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?

Yes, our therapy services are covered by most extended healthcare plans in Ontario. As a Registered Social Worker (RSW), Lee-Anne Boucher's services are eligible for reimbursement through plans that cover social work or psychotherapy, including Veterans Affairs (VAC), Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, and many others. We provide detailed receipts for insurance claims.

Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?

Yes, we offer both in-person sessions at our Kanata office (430 Hazeldean Road, Unit 209) and secure virtual therapy sessions for clients throughout Ontario. Virtual sessions use the same evidence-based approaches and are just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns.

How much does therapy cost at Bridge for Families?

Individual therapy sessions are $180 for a 50-minute session, and couples therapy is $200. We also offer a supervised intern therapy option at $100 per session. Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation to ensure we're the right fit.

What concerns can individual psychotherapy help with?

Individual psychotherapy at Bridge for Families supports adults dealing with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, chronic stress and burnout, low self-esteem, anger, grief, and the after-effects of trauma. It's also a space to work through major life transitions such as a career change, separation, becoming a parent, or caring for aging parents. Many clients come in not because of a single crisis, but because they want to understand recurring patterns and feel more like themselves again.

How is individual therapy different from couples or family therapy?

Individual therapy focuses entirely on you, your goals, your history, and the patterns you want to change, in a confidential one-on-one setting. Couples and family sessions instead work with the relationships and communication between people in the room. Many clients combine the two, doing their own individual work while also attending couples or family sessions. During your consultation we can help you decide which format, or which combination, best fits what you're going through.

What therapeutic approaches do you use in individual sessions?

Sessions are integrative and tailored to each person rather than following a single rigid model. Drawing on more than 30 years of clinical experience, Lee-Anne blends approaches such as cognitive behavioural strategies, trauma-informed care, attachment-focused work, and solution-focused techniques depending on your needs and goals. The aim is practical, lasting change, building coping skills you can use between sessions while also exploring the deeper roots of what brought you to therapy.
